Overview

Bearing UCP 215 Information

The Bearing UCP 215 is a mounted pillow block ball bearing unit designed for heavy-duty applications, featuring a large bore capacity and robust design, intended for the mounting of a 75mm shaft, which is both rotated and subjected to heavy radial loads. It combines the UC 215 insert ball bearing with the robust P 215 cast iron two-bolt housing in one pre-assembled unit, without the need for any on-site machining, fitting, or pre-assembling.

The unit has a dynamic load rating of 66.3 kN and a static load rating of 49.0 kN, making it one of the units in the range with the highest capacity. It is designed to accommodate loads more than five times heavier than the UCP 204, over 50% heavier than the UCP 211, thus placing it firmly in the large bore, heavy-duty category of the insert ball bearing unit range. At 8.16kg, it is also the heaviest of the standard range of UCP units. It requires careful planning, robust support, and handling during the installation process.

If we consider all the global manufacturers of such products, i.e., NTN, NSK, FYH, Timken, FAG, and many more, we find that when it comes to UCP 215, the top choice for engineers and procurement managers is the SKF product, considering their guaranteed load ratings, top-grade steel specifications, their superior design of a nylon patch set screw locking mechanism, and their extensive published documentation. This product is manufactured according to JIS B 1558 standards and is fully interchangeable with all other top-grade brand products.

Construction & Key Design Features on UCP 215

  • P‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ 215 Cast Iron Housing: Heavy Section Construction: Employing a one-piece grey cast iron housing results in a stronger design featuring thicker sections and more base ribs for enhanced load capacity. A flat base, extending over 217 mm between bolt holes, is available to provide a wide and rigid base capable of bearing loads to be transferred to the support structure. Radius fillets have been added to increase the strength of the areas undergoing radial and shock loading at the transition from base to body. Precision-machined internal spherical seating has been ensured to fit the convex outer ring of the UC 215 insert bearing for self-aligning capabilities of up to ±3° over the entire range of loading.
  • UC 215 Insert Bearing: Pressed Steel Cage: The standard pressed steel cage, usually delivered with the bearing, furnishes it with the qualities of resistance to centrifugal loads/ rigidity for 75mm duty cycles in the shafts. The inner ring extends equally beyond the outer ring. This will accept two nylon patch set screws 120° apart. “SKF’s Nylon Patch is a passive anti-vibration locking system that can give up to 16% higher axial holding power than standard set screws, while it does not have the drawbacks of liquid thread-locking compounds, which hinder maintenance disassembly.
  • Multi-Stage Sealing System: The standard seal includes double NBR contact seals with pressed steel washers and a UC 215 insert. Sheet steel flanges, externally coated, are attached to both ends of the housing. The flinger mainly deflects the contaminants, and the lip of the contact seal ensures that no contaminants pass through the seal. The higher the bore diameter, the greater will be the peripheral contact speed of the seal. This means a greater demand on the seal. For harsh water, dust, and chemical environments, SKF offers UC 215 inserts with triple-lip seals ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌(TF).

Installation Guide — UCP 215

The UCP 215 weighs 8.16 kg, so it needs two people to handle it or a machine to lift it when you are installing it. You have to follow these steps carefully because if you make a mistake with something this big, it can be very expensive and even dangerous.

  • Step 1: Get the shaft ready. You have to make sure the shaft is the size, between 75mm and 0.019mm. If the UCP 215 is going to be carrying a load, you should check the shaft to make sure it is straight. Use a tool to see if the shaft is straight. If it is not, you need to fix it before you put the UCP 215 on. You also need to remove any edges or rust from the shaft and put a little bit of oil on it.
  • Step 2: Check the surface where you are going to put the UCP 215. This surface has to be very flat, or the UCP 215 will not work properly. If you are putting the UCP 215 on a base, you need to use a special metal plate to make sure it is flat. You also need to make sure the beam or frame that is holding the UCP 215 is strong enough to carry the weight.
  • Step 3: Put the UCP 215 housing in place. You will need two people or a machine to lift it. Put the bolts in. Do not tighten them all the way yet. You need to leave a bit of room to adjust the shaft.
  • Step 4: Put the shaft into the UCP 215. The UCP 215 is designed to adjust to the shaft, so it should fit in easily. If it does not fit, there may be a problem with the shaft or the UCP 215. You need to fix it before you go on.
  • Step 5: Tighten the set screws. You need to tighten them in two steps to 50% and then to 100%. Use a tool to make sure they are tightened the right amount. If you do not tighten them enough, the shaft may slip. If you tighten them too much, you may damage the shaft. After the UCP 215 has been running for 8 hours, you need to check the set screws and tighten them if you need to.
  • Step 6: Tighten the bolts that hold the UCP 215 in place. You need to use a lot of force to tighten them. You should use special washers to keep them from coming loose. If the UCP 215 is going to be used in a place with a lot of vibration, you may need to use locks to keep the bolts from coming loose.
  • Step 7: Put grease in the UCP 215. If the UCP 215 has been stored for a time, you need to put fresh grease in it before you start using it. Use a tool to put the grease in, and do not put too much.
  • Step 8: Watch the UCP 215 while it is running. You need to check the temperature of the housing to make sure it is not getting too hot. If it gets too hot, there may be a problem with the UCP 215. You need to stop it and fix it before you can use it again. The temperature should be between 45 and 75 degrees above the temperature of the air around it. If it gets hotter than that, you need to stop the UCP 215. Investigate the problem.

Lubrication & Maintenance Schedule of UCP 215 Bearing

UCP 215 comes pre-greased with SKF LGMT 2-grade lithium-calcium mineral greases. The nipple is in the middle and needs a straight-head grease coupler. Amount of grease to be added: around 18-22 grams per relubrication. Only inject at low pressure — high-pressure injection in this bore size may cause the seals to be damaged.

What is a UCP 215 bearing unit?

The UCP 215 is a large-bore, heavy-duty pillow block (plummer block) ball bearing unit consisting of a UC 215 insert ball bearing inside a P 215 cast iron two-bolt housing. It supports a 75mm rotating shaft with a 66.3 kN dynamic load rating and is used in heavy industrial conveyors, large fan drives, mining equipment, pump installations, and demanding agricultural machinery.

What bore size is the UCP 215?

The standard UCP 215 has a metric bore of 75mm. Imperial bore variants using the same P 215 housing include UCP 215-44 (2-3/4 inch / 69.85mm), UCP 215-45 (2-13/16 inch / 71.44mm), UCP 215-46 (2-7/8 inch / 73.03mm), and UCP 215-47 (2-15/16 inch / 74.61mm). All variants share the identical housing footprint, bolt hole pattern, and mounting dimensions.

What is the load rating of SKF UCP 215?

The SKF UCP 215 has a dynamic load rating (C) of 66.3 kN and a static load rating (C₀) of 49.0 kN. The limiting speed under standard grease lubrication is 2,100 r/min. These are among the highest load ratings in the standard UCP 200-series, making the UCP 215 suitable for large-shaft, heavy-duty industrial shaft support applications.

What is the difference between UCP 211 and UCP 215?

The UCP 211 has a 55mm bore with a 43.6 kN dynamic load rating and weighs 3.60 kg, with a 171mm bolt hole spacing. The UCP 215 increases to a 75mm bore and a 66.3 kN dynamic load rating — approximately 52% stronger — weighing 8.16 kg with a 217mm bolt spacing. The UCP 215 also has a lower limiting speed (2,100 vs 3,200 r/min), reflecting the larger size. Both use a pressed steel cage in the insert bearing.

What does the UCP 215 weigh?

The SKF UCP 215 weighs 8.16 kg — the heaviest of the commonly stocked standard UCP 200-series sizes. Shipping weight, including packaging,g is typically 9.5–10.5 kg per unit. Two-person handling or mechanical lifting assistance is strongly recommended during installation due to the combination of weight and the precise positioning required during shaft insertion and set screw tightening.

What set screw torque does UCP 215 require?

The recommended set screw tightening torque for the UCP 215 is 45–55 Nm. Tighten both set screws alternately in two stages — first to 50% of the final torque, then both to full torque — using a calibrated torque wrench. After the first 8 hours of operation under load, re-check and re-torque both set screws, as initial bedding of the nylon patch may cause slight relaxation.
